Kate Amatruda, MA, is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice since 1982 in Northern California. She teaches at University of California, Berkeley and Santa Cruz, and Sonoma State University in the Extended Education Departments. She is an internationally known lecturer and featured keynote speaker in the realm of symbolic psychology focusing on the individuation process.

Ms. Amatruda is the author of Trauma, Terror and Treatment (2001), Psyche & Soma: Sandplay Therapy and the Body (2001), Sandplay Therapy and The Liminal World (2000), Painted Ponies: Bipolar Disorder in Children, Adolescents and Adults (2000), HIV: The Storm. (1999), all published in Black Point, CA by www.psychceu.com.

She is the co-author of Sandplay, The Sacred Healing: A Guide to Symbolic Process (1997, Trance-Sand-Dance Press: Taos), Safe Harbor: Law and Ethics in Clinical Practice (2001, Black Point: www.psychceu.com) and Reweaving the Web: The Treatment of Substance Abuse, (1998, Taos: Trance-Sand-Dance Press.)

Ms. Amatruda has published numerous articles in the Journal of Sandplay Therapy (San Francisco: Sandplay Therapists of America) and The Archives of Sandplay Therapy (Kyoto: Japanese Association for Sandplay Therapy). Previously, she published a series of four articles in The Hospice Report on death and dying.

She is the webweaver of www.sandplay.org, the website of Sandplay Therapists of America, and www.psychceu.com.

Ms. Amatruda graduated with honors from the University of California, Berkeley, and received her master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from John F. Kennedy University. She did post-graduate studies with Dora Kalff, the founder of Sandplay Therapy, in Zollikon, Switzerland where she also attended numerous classes at the C.G. Jung Institute.

Ms. Amatruda lives on a river in Northern California with her husband, a professional photographer, who treats her like a queen. She is the mostly good mother of Colety, a nine year old boy and the sometimes wicked stepmother of Kira, age 24, and Evan, age 21.
 
 

Lauren Cunningham, MSW, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in private practice in San Francisco since 1975. She works from a Jungian depth psychology perspective in her clinical practice with children and adults.

She is particularly interested in the symbolic and creative process that occurs in sandplay therapy, dreams, expressive arts and active imagination. She has been a social worker and educator in international adoption and currently consults with parents and teachers at several San Francisco schools.

Ms. Cunningham now teaches sandplay therapy at University of California, Berkeley Extension, and California Institute of Integral Studies in their Expressive Arts Therapy and Clinical Psychology Programs.

She is the founding editor of the Journal of Sandplay Therapy published by Sandplay Therapists of America. This journal is published bi-annually since 1991with an international circulation.

Ms. Cunningham graduated from University of Pennsylvania with a BA in English Literature and from University of California, Berkeley, with an MSW in social welfare. She has studied Jungian psychology and sandplay therapy for the over twenty five years and is currently an analytic candidate at the C.G. Jung Institute oi San Francisco.

Lauren Cunningham lives in San Francisco with her husband, Christopher, who is also a therapist and specializes in therapy with men. Her two children, Heather, age 25, and Kevin, age 26, return to the nest from time to time.

 

Both authors have lectured nationally and internationally about the feminine journey through the symbolic and creative process. They are Teaching Members of the International Society for Sandplay Therapy and Founding Members of Sandplay Therapists of America.. They are both certified as Continuing Education Providers by the State of California for MFTs and LCSWs. Together, they have over 50 years clinical experience and are recognized as specialists in sandplay therapy, a symbolic form of psychotherapy that deals with the feminine individuation journey.
