Q. I'm nervous about doing this on my computer. Can you help?
A. We are committed to helping you! Listen to what some of our students have said:

Q. I just ordered an online class, and got my invoice. What happens next?
A. You will immediately receive confirmation of your order, your password and how to access the course material. Many students like to print out the post-test before they start the course, to answer as they go along. If you wish to do that, go to the post-test and print it out first. Read the material, take the test. When you pass , just print out your certificate.

That's it!
You are done!
It's that easy!
When you are done, just print out your certificate!

Q. Can I print out the post-test to answer as I go along?
A. Yes! Many of our students like to print out the post-test to answer as they read the course material, and, then when they are ready, return to the log-in page and answer the post-test questions.

Q. How fast are you?
A. Really fast!! You will get immediate feedback on your answers, and can print out your own certificate when you have passed the post-test. Good luck!

Q. I can't re-access my course/test material. What do I do?
A. We apologize for the inconvenience you are experiencing.
To get back into the course, please close your browser window and re-open it. It should then appear fine. We have found that 90% of access problems are solved by simply closing your browser window and re-opening it.
Sometimes an individual might have to open the preferences in their browser, and "clear the cache" or delete their history, but usually all that is needed it to close and reopen the browser.
Good luck!

Q. I lost my certificate. What do I do?
A. Go back to the log-in page, at:
https://www.psychceu.com/materialsandtests/login.asp
and use the "Reprint certificate" link at the bottom.

Q. Will you mail me a certificate?
A.
No. One of the beauties of online education is that your test is immediately scored, you are given the correct answers, and, if you pass (which we really hope that you do!) you print out your own certificate!  No waiting! That's it! You are done! It's that easy!

Q. Can you please explain about how much time online courses take and also the fees for any particular course? I haven't done distance learning online before. Can you stop and start if the learning keeps getting interrupted with other duties (like life!)? Also, how long do you have to complete it?

A. In online courses, the number of units offered corresponds to the number of hours the course takes to complete. Some people finish a five unit course more quickly than in five hours; others take longer, going back to it several times, as their schedules permit. There is no expiration date for taking a course, and you can go back to it as often as you wish, which is the beauty of an online or independent study course. You also may print it out if you prefer to read the material from paper, rather than your computer.

Q. I am trying to figure out how to order online courses however, although there is course information, I can't find the ordering process on your website. How do I order?
A. Thanks for your interest. Just scroll down on the front page, or the page of the course of interest, until you see the bird logo , which connects to our order page, or access it directly at: https://www.psychceu.com/ordercourse/orderform.asp.

Fill out the quantities for the courses you want, then scroll up or down to the check-out box. This will connect you directly to our secure server. Please e-mail us or call 888-777-3773 if you need help.

Notes:

Board of Registered Nursing (Provider #13620)
For nurses most states that require ce/ceus accept the CA approval as equivalent for their state. Please check with your state licensing board for reciprocity! Nursing hours count as 1.2 times the number of hours cited; so a 10 ce course is equivalent to 12 nursing hours. Let us know when you submit your post-test if you need a BRN certificate by checking the appropriate box. California nurses may take ALL of their required continuing education at www.psychceu.com!

Q. How do I know if a course meets my State's requirements?
A. ALL of our courses are accepted by the BBS, BRN, NAADAC, NBCC, FL, TX and TX SBEPC!
We recommend that you check with your State Board of Licensing regarding the number of online and independent ces that are allowed and the reciprocity with the Boards that have approved us
. Please go to our page of continuing education links if you have questions about your state or licensing board.

Q. What is the difference between CEUs, CEs, Contact Hours, non-contact training hours, etc.?
A. This is confusing! At times being a continuing education provider seems like swimming in alphabet soup! Each group seems to have its own terminology, one hour of continuing education for the
APA = ce
BBS = ceu
BRN = contact hour
APT = non-contact training hour

Q. What is the difference between online and self study?
A. This also is confusing! The CA BBS states that self-study courses are those in which you received the materials as hard copy or as a text, and took the test with no online component. All of our courses are designated as online because they have interactive online tests.  As long as you complete your test online it  will now be counted the same as a 'face-to-face' course, so you may take all 36 CA BBS required units at www.psychceu.com, even those with texts required. Please check with your state and licensing board to see what applies to you!

Q. What is the difference between online courses and courses which require texts?
A. Online courses are available online for immediate download; you may download and print one copy of the material for your personal use.  They often have an optional text or hard copy which may be purchased.

Courses that require texts have post-tests based upon reading the text; you will see this statement regarding these courses:

This course consists of a post-test based upon reading the text. There is no online material to read. After you pass the post-test, you may print out your own certificate.

Q. Is all of the material needed to answer the test correctly included in the one download, how much time is required generally to complete the course. Can one retake the exam if need be...does that happen much?

A. Yes, all of the material needed to pass the test is available in one download, although many will find the links important reading as well. The 6 unit class is expected to take about 6 hours, although, with self-study, some people will go through the material very quickly, and others more slowly, so it is impossible to predict how long it will take any individual to complete the course.
You get two chances to pass the exam, with immediate feedback given. There is a $20 Retake fee for two additional attempts to pass the course.

Q. Can you tell me if there is a time limit on taking the test? How soon do you know the results of the test? What do you do if you don't pass?
A. There is no time limit on taking the test, but the secure line will log you out after 60 minutes, so we suggest that you print out the post-test before reading the course material, and answer it as you go along. You will have two chances to take the test, with immediate feedback given after each attempt.
You will find out the results immediately, and be able to print out your certificate right then!
Contact us, if for some reason you don't pass the course, and we will work with you to help you get through it successfully.

Q. How do I contact you?
A. Either e-mail us or connect directly through our link. We also can be reached at our toll-free number 1-888-777-3773.

Q. What is your return policy?
A.
All of our courses are 100% guaranteed! If you purchase a course and don't like it, let us know before you have passed the course and generated a certificate. We will then refund the purchase price. We can only offer to credit your credit card back within 60 days of a purchase, according to our credit card authorizer. After 60 days, you will receive a credit toward taking a future class.

Q. Can I trust you?
A. We hope so!!   www.psychceu.com has been is business for years, and count ourselves as the first company to offer online and self-study courses. We started with our first course, Sandplay, The Sacred Healing, back when the CA BBS decreed that licensed therapists needed continuing education. We have sufficient resources to support both direct and indirect program costs, including operational and nonoperational expenses as well as current and expected financial liabilities

Q. How do you choose your faculty?
A. We actively seek out experts in the field to teach our courses, i.e. Jungian courses are written by Jungian analysts; sandplay therapy courses are by teaching members of the International Society for Sandplay Therapy, psychopharmacology courses by a professor of clinical psychology, specializing in psychopharmacology, etc. In our self-study courses, selection criteria includes that the course material is clear, clinically relevant, accurate, ethical and well written.
We also work with the planning committee, our professional consultants, and professional organizations for suggestions for faculty, authors, publications and topics that would be clinically relevant for post-doctoral level psychologists and postgraduate professionals within the fields of psychology, social work, nursing and education.

Q. How do you handle ethical content in your courses?
A. We do adhere to the
American Psychological Association's Ethical Principles of Psychologists. Our courses are carefully screened by the Planning Committee to adhere to APA standards. We also require authors who compose Internet courses specifically for us follow APA ethical standards.

Many of our courses contain case material, and may use the methods of qualitative research and analysis, in-depth interviews and ethnographic studies. The psychotherapeutic techniques depicted include play therapy, sandplay therapy, dream analysis, drawing analysis, client and therapist self-report, etc. The materials presented may be considered non-traditional and may be controversial, and may not have widespread endorsement within the profession. www.psychceu.com maintains responsibility for the program.

Q. How do you ensure that these facilities are private enough to safeguard the confidentiality of case materials or work samples being presented?
A. As we are concerned about access to psychologically sensitive material on the Internet, all courses have a password protection mechanism, requiring a login user name and a password, which is assigned when the course is ordered.
In course material, all identifying material is changed to protect confidentiality. If answers to post-test questions require discussion of clinical material, we remind the student taking the course to change identifying material. In addition, post-test questions are carefully constructed to allow discussion of therapeutic themes, or countertransference material, rather than clinical vignettes presented by the student.

Q. What is your Grievance Procedure?
A
.

www.psychceu.com is fully committed to conducting all activities in strict conformance with the American Psychological Association's Ethical Principles of Psychologists. www.psychceu.com will comply with all legal and ethical responsibilities to be non-discriminatory in promotional activities, program content and in the treatment of program participants. The monitoring and assessment of compliance with these standards will be the responsibility of the Program Committee in consultation with our Psychologist consultants and the President of www.psychceu.com
While www.psychceu.com goes to great lengths to assure fair treatment for all participants and attempts to anticipate problems, there will be occasional issues which come to the attention of the staff which require intervention and/or action on the part of the staff or an officer of www.psychceu.com. This procedural description serves as a guideline for handling such grievances.
When a participant, either orally or in written format, files a grievance and expects action on the complaint, the following actions will be taken:

1. If the grievance concerns an author, the content presented by the author, or the style of presentation, the individual filing the grievance will be asked to put his/her comments in written format, or to call or e-mail the president. The president will then pass on the comments to the author, assuring the confidentiality of the grieved individual.
2. If the grievance concerns a course offering, its content, level of presentation, or the post-test, the president or administrator will offer a full refund, as all of www.psychceu.com’s courses are 100% guaranteed. If the student purchases a course and doesn’t like it, prior to the receipt of the certificate or letter of completion, he or she may return the materials in their original condition.
www.psychceu.com will then refund the purchase price, less postage and handling.
3. If the material in any course is not satisfactory for any reason, (including evoking too much personal discomfort or stress to complete the course), please remember that are courses are 100% guaranteed. If you purchase a course and do not like it, for any reason, return the materials to us in their original condition, prior to the issuance of a Certificate of Completion, we will refund the purchase price, less postage and handling. We then issue a credit to your account. If you ordered online materials only, we will credit you the same day.
4. We can only offer credit within sixty days of a purchase, according to our credit card authorizer. After sixty days, we will offer you a credit toward another course.
5. If the grievance concerns a speaker,
the content presented by the speaker, or the style of presentation, the individual filing the grievance will be asked to put his/her comments in written format. The CE Chair will then pass on the comments to the speaker, assuring the confidentiality of the grieved individual.
6. If the grievance concerns a workshop offering, its content, level of presentation, or the facilities in which the workshop was offered, the convention chair will mediate and will be the final arbitrator. If the participant requests action, the convention chair will:
a. attempt to move the participant to another workshop or
b. provide a credit for a subsequent year's workshop or
c. provide a partial or full refund of the workshop fee.
Actions 6b and 6c will require a written note, documenting the grievance, for record keeping purposes. The note need not be signed by the grieved individual.
You may call us at 800-777-3773 or email us at info@psychceu.com

Q. How do accommodate for people with disabilities in  your courses?
A. Our Internet courses are often written in large font, for easier reading (and those of us with 'old eyes!') We strive to have written material, or transcripts, available, should there be difficulty hearing a video. All of our online courses can be purchased in an optional ‘hard copy’ in the event that there are difficulties taking a course from the computer. The lack of a time frame for course completion is helpful to those with learning differences. We also use the “person with…” terminology in our online courses, as advocacy for those with disabilities. (An example of this is when we talk about a “person with a disability, rather than a ‘disabled person’, as we believe the language with which we communicate can be as vital as the content of what we communicate!) While we currently only offer courses in English, we have worked with students whose primary language is not English, to assist them in understanding the material as needed.

APA Ethics

We do adhere to the American Psychological Association's Ethical Principles of Psychologists.

The psychotherapeutic techniques depicted may include play therapy, sandplay therapy, dream analysis, drawing analysis, client and therapist self-report, etc. The materials presented may be considered non-traditional and may be controversial, and may not have widespread endorsement within the profession. www.psychceu.com maintains responsibility for the program and its content.

Questions and Answers from the California Board of Psychology

What is continuing education?
Continuing education means the variety of forms of learning experiences, including, but not limited to, lectures, conferences, seminars, workshops, grand rounds, video conferencing, and distant learning technologies. "Distance learning" means the variety of forms of organized and directed learning experiences that occur when the instructor and the student are not in direct visual or auditory contact. These include, but are not limited to, courses delivered via the Internet, CD-ROM, satellite downlink, correspondence and home study. Up to 27 hours of continuing education during each renewal cycle can be accrued through distance learning technologies. Distance learning courses must meet all standards of an approved continuing education course.

How much continuing education must be completed?
All licensed psychologists must have completed at least 36 hours of acceptable continuing education each time they renew their license.

Do I have to take any specific courses to meet the board's continuing education requirements?
Pursuant to section 1397.61(c) of the California Code of Regulations, any person renewing his or her license on or after January 1, 2000 shall provide written evidence to the board of completion of a continuing education course of no less than four hours in length in the subject of laws and ethics for each license renewal cycle.
Additionally, pursuant to SB 564, Chapter 481, Statutes of 2002, any person applying for renewal who began graduate study prior to January 1, 2004, is required to take a continuing education course in spousal or partner abuse assessment, detection, and intervention strategies during his or her first renewal period after January 1, 2004 and shall provide written evidence to the board of completion of a course in spousal or partner abuse assessment, detection, and intervention strategies. Equivalent courses taken prior to this date or equivalent teaching of practice experience may be submitted and accepted by the board of this requirement.

California Requirements for Registered Nurses

RNs must keep their certificates of course completion for a period or four years.

To figure out the number of contact hours, multiply the number of units by 1.2. Therefore, a 6 ceu course is equal to 7.2 contact hours; a 10 ceu course equals 12 contact hours, etc.

Each course has a box at the end of the post-test to check if you need a BRN certificate.

License Renewal Information may be found online at:
http://www.rn.ca.gov/

Independent or Home Study Courses
Approved providers may offer Independent or home study courses. There is no limit to the number of contact hours that can be completed through independent or home study courses. It is recommended that a description of the methodology used to grant contact hours for these courses be developed and kept on file by the CEP so that questions/complaints raised by those taking the course can be addressed by the Board.
